David Hearn’s 2000 Olympic JournalThe Olympic CoursesThe Olympic Qualifier & Finals courses have 23 gates with 8 upstreams. This comes as no surprise as the trio of course designers includes American David Mitchell, Poland's Zbigniew Kudlik, and Spain's Francesc Gaynet (his brother Ramon designed the Ocoee 1996 Olympic course with these two 4 years ago). After the Junior World Championships this year with 8 ups, Team USA has been training full lengths with 7 and 8 upstreams because of the Polish course design and knowing Dave's tough design style. The best foreruners time came in at 133 seconds for K1. The top kayaks should go 120, about 20 seconds longer than any World Cup race this season. Team USA is ready to go. |
